Final Inspiration-Part A
My subscription for inspiration has expired so someone else will have to create it this time
My lessons included calorie intake data collection and Food Pyramid which is now called Choose My Plate. Then my digital story was about how to make a grocery list. Please keep me updated on who is doing this and what your ideas are! Thanks

Script of Podcast So Far...
Lauren:
Gabrielle:
Talk about how our project uses research in many different parts
- researching a culture
- researching different kinds of advertising
- researching calories for different foods
- One large aspect of PBL is that "students engage in real-world activities and practice the strategies of authentic disciplines". We are showing students what it's like to run a business in the real world.
My script so far: It's at least 1 minute long. Let me know what you guys think!
-One large aspect of PBL is that "students engage in real-world activities and practice the strategies of authentic disciplines". We are showing students what it's like to run a business in the real world.
Our project is largely dependent on the research that our students do- both individually and collaboratively. There were several different smaller assignments within the larger project in which students were asked to research and draw conclusions from what they learned.
For our pen pals assignment, students learned how to collect data from primary sources using the process of interviewing. They used their primary sources (students their age from another country) to learn about a new culture. Through email, students would ask questions about food and party traditions and use the answers they received to create a party and menu that was culturally sound.
When our students were assigned the Advertising Assignment they were asked to look at the data they collected and apply meaning to it. They collected data about the different ways they could advertise and how much money each cost. It was then their job to pick the best kinds of advertising for their business- whether it be through newspapers, magazines, yellow pages, etc. They had to consider their budget and what would bring in the most business for their buck.
For another assignment, students had to research calories of a variety of commonly used foods. They made a list of the data in excel and created a graph from it. This would be used later, when students had to calculate the calories per serving for each of their dishes. Doing all of the research ahead of time is much easier than doing it in pieces as needed, and this assignment shows that to students very well.
-
- introduce our topic stating the different topics that we will cover
- how students will take charge of their own learning
- talk about optimizing technology
Gabrielle:
- Questions for checking in Pg. 118
- Promoting global awareness and cultural appreciation
- Maybe explain the Virtual penpals and google maps? Possibly, What are your thoughts?

Podcast
I know this assignment is not due until June 17th, but I wanted to get a head start on my portion of this assignment. I plan to introduce our topic stating the different topics that we will cover, how students will take charge of their own learning, and talk about optimizing technology. I will post on here my final scrip when I have it done (required). If you guys want you both can send me your finished podcast mp3's and I can combine them to submit. Let me know what you think about this. Like I mentioned early I know it is not due for a while, so no rush!
Hey, I've finished! I'm emailing my podcast to you - Alexis
ps. thanks so much for volunteering to put them together! I'm afraid I wouldn't be able to work it haha

Lesson # 2
Hey guys I just wanted to let you know that for my lesson # 2 I will be doing it on kitchen measurement utensils, conversions etc. (The same one that I chose for my lesson # 1). Hope everything is coming along great for you both.
I'll be doing the same topic as well- advertising. I think. - Alexis
** Actually I think I might try calories for foods that they will use so that they can write what each dish's calorie count is without as much work. - Alexis

Week 3
Can one of you guys go into setting a make me a admin. I was making you guys into admins and I accidentally changed myself. Thanks!
Also for the lesson plan due this week based off our project I am going to do the food pyramid one. We are all supposed to do different ones based off our main project. So keep me updated on what your plans are. Thanks!
Hey it's Alexis. I don't know how to do anything on this website- I'm so technologically illiterate it's not even funny. But I'll try to turn you into an administrator lol. I'm going to have a lesson based on advertisement- they'll figure out what they need to do and figure out the prices and all that!

This idea is awesome. Also my input I put through via text to Alexis is the main project could be catering/money making project. At my last pre-intership my class room did this and they made a soup and salad bar for the staff during lunch for $5. The student were in charge of making a grocery list, looking up prices so they could stay on budget through internet and grocery ads and they had to follow recipes. The money they made went toward there classroom and the teacher paid them for there work by giving them free time. My students had mild cognitive impairments. This was a real strong life lesson for my students to acquire job skills they will need in the future and independent living skills.
Inspiration Concept Map Ideas
Alexis's ideas as mentioned on our E-Learning blog:
"So here's my idea. We should have them run a catering business. We'd split them into groups of 2-4 and give them a) starting money and b) three orders.
They'd need to
a) plan a menu
b) "purchase" all the things they'd need- food, silverware, etc
After they did their "first event", they'd need to plan for their second, then third. Each time they need to break even/ earn money so that they can buy supplies for their next event.
They can use technology to research catering business, prices, etc. Their final presentation could be them explaining to the class how they ran their business and earned money."
Lauren's ideas as mentioned on our E-Learning blog:
"For inspiration I would put in the center bubble Catering. Then steaming off from them we could have the three events that you were talking about we could have wedding, bridal shower, and possible graduation party. Those are just some ideas then steaming off of each of those we could have kitchen measurements, kitchen utensils. Plan a menu could include: food pyramid (food nutrition), food allergies, meals according to events and split off into meal courses, then we would need budgeting, maybe advertising for the catering business. This way students will not just be learning about cooking but planning and budgeting for running a successful business."
